Amy Ray has been making her solo music in between Indigo Girls' records and gigs for the past 12 years. She started an indie label, Daemon Records in 1989. After releasing over 40 records by her favorite artist, in 2000 she decided to venture into making her own music, influenced by punk, rock, and Appalachian music. Ray took writing cues and musical inspiration from many of the artists on her label and bands she had met through the underground community. Her first record Stag featured partnerships with punk icons, The Butchies, along with The Rockateens and Joan Jett. Her second release Prom, brought Jody Bleyle, Kate Schellenbach, Donna Dresch, and 1945 into the fold. On her last solo release, Didn't It Feel Kinder, Ray teamed up with producer Greg Griffith (Vitapup, Le Tigre, The Butchies), releasing what was considered an evolution in her musical life. With Lung of Love, Amy further displays the maturity and musical diversity that reflects her long tenure in the musical community.
