From Radical Face
More than 10 years ago, Ben Cooper AKA Radical Face, started crafting the story of a fictitious, and sometimes otherworldly 19th century family. He brought those characters to life in a three-part album series based around the family he created and recorded alone in the shed behind his mom’s house in Jacksonville, Florida.
Certain instrumentations and melodies were used to represent various “family members” and each album was recorded using only the instrumentation available during the era represented.
The first two albums in the trilogy, The Family Tree: The Roots released 2011 and The Family Tree: The Branches released 2013. The third and final installment of the trilogy will be released in early 2016.
Throughout the writing and recording process of each album in the trilogy, there were certain tracks that didn’t quite fit the album. These came to be known as “the bastards.” As the trilogy is now finished, so are “the bastards”. With that in mind, two new “bastards” from the recording of the third installment have been combined with the previous “bastards” to comprise one complete, stand-alone album available to Radical Face fans — a total of eleven Bastards.
