Welcome to the companion project to the songs in Seven Years! These stories and poems are an invitation into my world, a place where I have fought with myself for years as a refugee resettlement worker between choosing to see personhood or problems, to listen for new stories or stick to my agenda, to open my arms or stay distant and guarded. Every day demands an intentional response from me, just as the 2016 election demanded a response on refugee issues from the American public. I hope these pieces will stir you to action on behalf of displaced people, or at least reveal a sliver of the divine movement that beckons and stirs in the shadowy places. (The poems are available only in the paperback copy).
