PG Nava was born in 1997, and spent his childhood years in inner-city Chicago. His early experiences were shaped by living with a single mother in an ultra-urban setting. After witnessing a few episodes of gang-related violence, his mother moved him to the suburbs to escape their dangerous environment.

From the beginning, he was drawn to different styles of music: Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Funk, Blues, Rock, and even Indie, but his favorite was Hip Hop. He was particularly influenced by Bone Thugs N Harmony, Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls, Arrested Development and Lil Wayne.

Growing up, he spent his time listening to music, writing stories, playing basketball, and hanging out with friends. At 11 years old, his father challenged him to write his first rap, and he continued to write for fun after that experience. He also enjoyed free-styling and trading verses with his dad and his friends and teammates when they weren’t playing basketball.

When PG Nava was 15, his mother got married and he was forced to leave his friends and school as he and his mother moved into a house with his new stepdad, a professional drummer. Upset with the move, PG Nava decided to change his focus and sought to find his direction in life. Finding guidance and inspiration through motivational videos by “Eric Thomas The Hip Hop Preacher”, he decided to cut out all distractions (friends, television, video games) and focus on his passion at the time: basketball. However, after not making the basketball team at his new school, he decided to put all of his focus into writing and making music. PG tried working with other rappers at his school, but ultimately felt he would progress better on his own.

He started learning the piano, learning to use Pro Tools and creating his own beats. Writing day and night, he began recording at a local studio. After listening to his first few songs, his stepfather began taking an interest in his rap career, and helped guide him through producing his first mixtape. The nine songs on “Different Type of Swag” tell the story of his journey and experiences, and express his state of mind as he progressed through his teenage years. It was released at the beginning of 2017.

PG Nava is now consistently releasing new content, working in his own studio recently formed (mid 2017).
